South Park generally has two modes. One is the social commentary side of things, which often tends to put preachy ideals ahead of laughs. The other is a drive to lampoon pop culture. Unlike other programs that aim for reference as the joke, South Park focuses more on the reaction of common people to cultural developments than it does on those elements themselves.
