Cartman is a somewhat spoiled, obnoxious and in South Park lingo Fat Kid, in South Park 1% they brought his extra weight into the light. Along with Cartman's weight came the "no child left behind" ideology and the current Occupy Wall Street, Occupy San Francisco and now occupy South Park. This was a great show with many current issues attacked, like only South Park can do.
The thing that makes South Park so great is that eventually at some point they will clutch on to any current event, any ridiculous group, moronic issues and general stupid behavior within the public light. Take for instance the No Child Left Behind Act, on the surface it appears to be a great ideal that will provide each student with the resources to achieve academic excellence. That's on the surface, in actuality it hinders more than it promotes academic achievements. Some schools are still practicing the lowering of academic standards in order to meet the requirements of the No Child left Behind Act.
Naturally, South Park pushed their popular satire slightly beyond reality, as the other 99% of students who are meeting academic standards aren't singled out as failures. But then I wouldn't expect any less from the makers of South Park. In a sense, though some may not agree, South Park brings everything out in the open; this in turn provides an ample avenue for further discussion on even the most difficult topics.
I have had many deep conversations spur from recent South Park episodes. Can you think of a time when South Park opened your eyes to current topics?
